Concert hotel demand is now a forecastable revenue event in Vietnam. Trip.com data released on 8 October shows hotels within 3 km of Hanoi’s My Dinh National Stadium sold out for BIGBANG’s 24–25 October shows by 29 July, almost three months before the first night. Concert travellers booked hotels 76 days ahead on average. In Ho Chi Minh City, hotel bookings for 16–17 October, ahead of two large concerts, are up 621% on last year. Our reading: the hotels that won here were the ones that had the event in their system before tickets went on sale. For most owners, the lesson is to price event nights months earlier than they do today.

What happened

Trip.com published the figures through Vietnamese media, led by Thanh Niên, on 8 October. They cover bookings made on its own platform, so they show direction and timing rather than market-wide volume.

Event City Dates Booking signal (Trip.com)
BIGBANG, World Tour XX: COSMOS Hanoi 24–25 Oct Hotel nights 23–24 Oct about 15x the October daily average
Tinh Hà Say Hi; Anh Trai Vượt Ngàn Chông Gai Ho Chi Minh City 17–18 Oct Hotel nights 16–17 Oct up 621% year on year
The Weeknd Bangkok 11 Oct Bookings 9–11 Oct 7x the October daily average
Two shows Kuala Lumpur 4–5 Nov Bookings 2–4 Nov nearly 22x the November daily average
BTS tour dates Bangkok; Singapore December Flight bookings up 1,116% and 696%

Agoda separately reported that Vietnamese searches for Bangkok accommodation for 9–22 November are up 105% on 2025, the highest growth among the Asian markets it tracks, around the Eurovision Song Contest Asia final on 14 November. Trần Thị Bảo Thu, marketing and communications director at tour operator Vietluxtour, told Thanh Niên that concert tourism is moving beyond a niche and becoming a reason young travellers choose a destination.

Why it matters

The pattern is consistent. Demand spikes when tickets go on sale, not when the show is near. Hotels near the venue fill first, and by the time a standard pick-up report flags the date, the inventory is already gone at whatever rate was loaded. A 76-day average booking window is far longer than typical city-hotel lead times. That is the gap: a hotel that prices from its normal booking curve sells concert nights at ordinary rates.

It is also policy. Hanoi’s new tourism programme names events and the night economy as core products and plans an international music festival, as we reported in our Hanoi upscale rooms analysis. Ho Chi Minh City wants to publish its major event dates one to two years ahead, as covered in our report on Ho Chi Minh City international visitors.

What’s next

Large stadium shows are now a regular feature in both cities: October alone has two major concert weekends. The outbound side matters too: Vietnamese fans are spending in Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, which is lost demand for domestic hotels in those weeks. We expect more promoters to work with platforms on ticket-and-hotel packages, which will push booking windows earlier still.

What it means for owners and operators

1. Track announcements, not pick-up

Set a rule: the day a stadium show is announced, the revenue team reviews those nights. The day presale opens, rates and restrictions should already be in place. Waiting for pick-up means pricing after the market has moved.

2. Use fences, not only rate

Minimum stays, non-refundable deposits and closed-to-arrival rules protect event nights better than a single high rate. Concert guests often stay one night; a two-night minimum on the event weekend can capture a shoulder night that would otherwise sit empty.

3. Distance is a pricing tier

Hotels within 3 km of the venue sold out first. Properties further out can still benefit, but only if they sell transfers or packages that solve the trip home after the show.

4. Plan staffing and F&B as well as rooms

A sold-out concert night means late arrivals, early breakfasts and heavy lobby traffic. Late-night food and check-in staffing are revenue, not just service, on those dates.
