Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2026 have put Vietnam at the top of Asia’s resort list. InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort ranked first among the top 15 resorts in Asia, and seven of the 15 are in Vietnam. Six of the US edition’s ten best hotels in South-east Asia are Vietnamese too. It is a strong result for the country’s luxury resorts. But for owners and operators, the more useful question is what these scores actually measure, and why Condé Nast’s UK edition ranks the same hotels so differently.

Why the two editions disagree

Condé Nast runs separate US and UK reader polls. The UK edition’s South-east Asia list is led by Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok (99.60) and puts Park Hyatt Saigon third with 99.01. It ranks Capella Hanoi 14th with 90.60. The US edition ranks Capella third with 98.82 and does not list Park Hyatt Saigon in its top ten.

Hotel US edition, SE Asia UK edition, SE Asia
Capella Hanoi 3rd, 98.82 14th, 90.60
Park Hyatt Saigon Not in top 10 3rd, 99.01

Our reading: each poll reflects who reads that edition and which hotels they stayed in. A US reader base will rate the hotels American travellers use; a UK base will rate a different set. Neither is wrong. Neither is a measure of revenue, occupancy or owner returns.

What the scores measure

The scores are averages of reader ratings. On the Asia resort list, first and 14th place are separated by 1.49 points, and Westin Cam Ranh, Song Saa and An Lam all show 97.51 or 97.52; Condé Nast breaks ties at four decimal places. A move of several places can come from a small change in average rating, or from which guests chose to respond.

What a high placing does deliver is reach with affluent, English-speaking leisure travellers in the year after publication. That is a marketing asset, especially for resorts selling to long-haul markets.

What it means for you

1. Owners: treat the list as sentiment data

Readers’ Choice tells you how past guests felt. It does not tell you rate, occupancy or RevPAR. Use it alongside the MICHELIN Key list, which uses inspectors, and the World Travel Awards, which are voted by the trade and public.

2. Sales teams: market the edition that matches your source market

A UK placing helps with UK and European agents; a US placing helps with North American travellers. Quote the edition and the year, and avoid mixing the two.

3. Brands: IHG’s resort base is showing

Three of Vietnam’s seven resort entries carry IHG brands: InterContinental, Regent and Six Senses. Rival operators pitching Vietnamese resort owners will be measured against that.

4. Independents can still win

Avana Retreat in Hoa Binh and An Lam Retreats in Ninh Van Bay made the Asia top 15 without a global loyalty programme. Small, guest-focused resorts can compete in reader polls on experience alone.
